Cogego Destroyed Property

Written by Erica on February 10, 2012 – 11:00 am -

For some reason I always have the worst of luck. Like the worst. Things with my house closing went as smoothly as one can expect but it’s everything else that’s going to shit.

On my move in day I had Bell come to install my wireless internet. Everything with that went smoothly and I was impressed at how prompt and early the installer was. I was given a 12-5pm window of time and the installer was done by 1pm. I then had Cogeco come to install my 2 months free cable and phone that came as an incentive from my builder. The window time for that was 2-5pm. That’s when things started to go downhill.

First of all the installer arrived at 5:15pm. I received no call letting me know that the installer would be late and I was just on my way out of the door so I was pretty annoyed, however I let the installer in. I basically let the installer work while I unpacked some things. It took him about an hr and a half to do whatever it he had to do and then he left. After he left I noticed mud on my off white wall and white baseboards. My mom and I tried to clean it off and then I noticed that the carpet near my basement door was pretty dirty. I’m left to assume that the installer wore his boots into my basements after he arrived therefore tracking some dirt onto my carpet.

The next evening while my father and brother were moving some of my items over I noticed that the internet would not work on my iphone. I thought that maybe I had just entered in the wrong password so I checked on my macbook. The internet wouldn’t work there either but it was too late to call technically support. The following evening (wednesday) I tried again with the internet. This time I called technically support. On their end they ran multiple line tests and they couldn’t find anything wrong, so I requested that I tech be sent out. The earliest one would be able to come I was told was Friday anywhere from 6-9pm. Thankfully the tech arrived at 6:30pm on friday evening.

It took him about 10 mins to figure out why my Bell internet would not work. Turns out that the Cogeco installer had cut the bell splitter lines therefore preventing my internet from working. At this point I was confused, so the Bell tech showed me the splitter and sure enough the lines were cut.

On the following Saturday I went to the mall to speak with someone about putting in a complained against the tech whom cut my Bell wires. I spoke with a very nice lady whom took down my cell phone number and assured me that someone would be contacting me within 48 hours. Within 4 hrs I received a call letting me know that the matter would be looked into first thing Monday morning and I should receive a call on Tuesday. Well tuesday came and went and no call. On Wednesday I spoke with my mom and was informed that she had received the call from Cogeco. So instead of them contacting me at the number I left they contacted me at the number on file, which is my parents phone number. This annoyed me. A call back number was left so I called them back today. I spoke with a very nice lady whom informed me that the matter was being looked into.

This evening I received a phone call on my cell phone asking me to clarify my complaint. I quickly did and asked how I would be compensated for the loss of service. Since my cable and phone services are free at the moment the tech was unsure as to how I would be compensated. He asked me if I watch movies on demand and I said no. I then explained that I would like my compensation to be an additional free month added to the free months that I already have. He said he would look into this and surprisingly called me back within 10 mins letting me know that it was done.

So, if all works out correctly, I should have free cable and phone till the end of April. Obviously I am going to double check that this is the case as I have a very bad feeling that I will be charged for the month of April thus resulting in me having to fight to not have to pay for the service.

Sometimes I just wish things could go smoothly.

First Night At The New Place

Written by Erica on February 7, 2012 – 7:47 am -

I don’t really have much to say as I’m short on time but last night was the first night I slept in my new house. My sleep was horrible and I think I woke up every few hours, but I expected that since I’m not use to hearing car doors slam, people locking their cars, and music as they drive by.

Construction started promptly at 7am this morning, since there are still a ton of units being worked on. Thankfully I’m off to work now, but I suspect that it will get pretty annoying on the weekends.

Tonight I have 1 of 3 blind companies coming to measure and give me prices on different options. Hopefully before they come I can clean up my office a bit and grab a shower.

Welcome To The Inside Of My House

Written by Erica on January 29, 2012 – 1:17 am -

Friday was my walk thru. Was I super excited? You bet! Was I expecting things to be done wrong? You bet! Did I find things done wrong? Of course, but thats the fun in buying a cooker cutter house that you try to make your own.

Anyways, here’s a rather quick tour of my brand spanking new townhouse. I missed photos of the main floor powder room bathroom, and I didn’t feel the need to take photos of the laundry room, linen closet or spare bedrooms.

So, when you first walk into my house via the front door (which I will probably never use) you see the living/family room. Stairs to go upstairs, downstairs and the garage door can be seen. There is a bathroom basically to the left of the front door and a closet besides the garage door.

Front Door View

Standing in the family/living room you can see the front door, basement stairs and upstairs.

Family Room View

Standing in family/living room corner you can see the front door, garage door, closet door, and kitchen.

Kitchen View

Standing in family/living room near the basement stairs you can see the eating area and back patio door. Eventually there will be a deck out the back door.

Dining View

A better view of my kitchen sans appliances.

When you walk up to the second left, you are basically greeted by my bedroom directly on the right. So standing in my bedroom door you can see; on the right is my upstairs bathroom and a 2nd bedroom.
On left we have the Laundry room and a linen closet, and straight ahead is a 3rd bedroom.

Inside my master bedroom there’s a rather large window and a walk in closet to the right.

There are also 2 other closets and a door that leads to the upstairs bathroom

So there you have it.

There are some minor nicks and marks and scratches that should be all repaired by Mondays closing date, however there’s one issue that I might be living with for a few days. The wrong door knobs were installed, but I’ve been assured that it will be corrected. Another major mistake that I guess is to my benefit that I will live with is my staircase. It’s 100% wrong. I opted for the standard staircase which has round spindles and a round post, and instead I received square ones that you can see in the above photos. Apparently the square posts and spindles are considered an upgrade (a $600+ upgrade I should add) so even though I prefer the round spindles I can live with an ugly square staircase. Really I’m not that concerned. I’ve been told they are easier to clean; less dust will settle on them and I’ve also been assured that I will not be charged for the upgrade. That was my main concern so once that was addressed I realized it’s pretty stupid to have them come and remove them and change it all out.

Wordless Wednesday {Townhouse Edition}

Written by Erica on January 25, 2012 – 7:50 am -

My house

Friday @ 3pm is my Home Inspection. I finally get to see the kitchen, which I’ve been dying to see since the builder sent me a post card back in december stating it was installed when it in fact was not.

I wish, I wish, I wish…

Written by Erica on January 12, 2012 – 9:04 pm -

A few days ago I left a comment on Nancy’s blog, specifically on a post regarding a Fairy Hobmother. Well because of the comment I left, I too was visited by the Fairy Hobmother and just like Nancy, I too have to talk about Washing Machines. Thankfully that’s a pretty easy topic to talk about.

I love my washing machine, well the washing machine that I’m waiting to have delivered. It won’t arrive till the 31st *fingers crossed* and It’s pretty much the same as my parents washing machine, which is a front loader. Dryers I could care less about since I’ve never really used one growing up. We line dry all our laundry.

So what did I wish for? Obviously I’m always thinking of things that I need for my house, so I tried to think outside the box a bit in regards to appliances that I’ve always wanted. My parents have a chest freezer, so I figured that would make a perfect wish. My fridge freezer isn’t all that large so what can I say, I dream big. However my wish was a little too expensive; so instead I received a generous sum to my paypal account and I’ll hopefully use it to get something nice for my house. Or I’ll just pay bills with it. That is the practical thing to do.

Would you like a visit from the Fairy Hobmother? All you need to do is leave me a comment and she might visit you.
