My Newest Purchase

Yesterday I made a purchase without any planning and certainly no saving.
I’m still a little bit sick to my stomach regarding this purchase, but I think it was the best option for me.

Thankfully I was able to save $100 off the purchase price thanks to the educational discount. That helped the blow a little bit.

So, what did I purchase?

Macbook pro

Yup, I am now the owner of a Apple Macbook Pro. – that is still currently sitting in the box.

How this came about is quite simple actually.

I came home from the gym and brought my macbook up to my bedroom to use. When I was about to set the computer onto my bed the bottom of my hard shell dropped off. That’s when I noticed this.

Mac Battery

(A huge thanks to Erin for responding right away to my question via twitter as to what happened.)

Turns out I have a bulging battery and this is a common known issue with older macbooks.

After talking with my awesome friend Cody (who’s my go to computer tech person) it was confirmed that I do in fact have an issue with my battery. So I basically had 3 options. Use the computer with the power cord, purchase a new battery or buy a new computer.

I talked to Cody, to my Bf and finally I called my mom in tears. (I’m dramatic sometimes. lol – seriously thou, spending huge amounts of money stresses me out.)

Let me tell you, this was no easy decision to make.

Since I use my computer at work, the option to always use the power cord was a no go. My classroom has 2 plugs, one at each end of the room, and most times I am no where near them when I’m using my computer. Plus it’s not very safe to a have a cord laying around with kids in the room.

Purchasing a new battery was something I heavily considered, however it would have to be ordered online and I’ve never liked purchasing items online.

For me, the most logistical decision was to just purchase a new computer. I’ve had my macbook since university, so for the last 6 years or so and recently it’s been running slow and constantly freezing plus I’m unable to update the operating system any further. I use it daily for work, and with my slow start into photography I would need a reliable computer for photo editing.

So there you have it. I plan to spend my Family Day unboxing my new toy and setting it up.
I’ve got a lot to do.

Shoppers Drug Mart Bonus Redemption

I finally had enough points saved to be able to participate in a Bonus Redemption. Here’s what I was able to get by redeeming $100 worth of points.

Shoppers Bonus Redemption

1x Ear thermometer @ $69.99 (Saved approx $5.00)
1x Cover Girl Lash Blast @ $10.99 – $1.00 coupon = $9.99 (Saved = $1.00)
1x Cover Girl Volume @ $9.99 – $1.00 coupon = $8.99 (Saved = $1.00)
2x Herbal Essence @ $4.99 each = $9.98 – 2/$1.00 coupons attatched to bottles = $7.98 (Saved = $3.00)
1x Herbal Essence @ 4.49 – 1/$1.00 coupon attached to bottle = $3.49 (Saved $2.00)
1x Herbal Essence @ $5.49 – 2/$1.00 coupon attached to bottle = $3.49 (Saved $2.00)
Tax @ $18.35

Total $118.35 – $100 in Shoppers Optimum points = $18.35

Since my mom wanted the Ear thermometer and the mascara and I was only able to get some shampoo for myself she has agreed to pay me the $18.35 so I can go out and get some other items I wanted. Therefore…
Grand total paid = $0

This past weekend I was over at Cassie’s from Friday evening till Saturday afternoon. I had planned to spent the entire weekend; leaving sometime on Sunday, but due to feeling rather ill I left her place Saturday afternoon.

Busy Busy

I’ve been at Cassie’s for the last few days helping her with whatever she’s asked me to do basically and it’s been pretty fun. I clipped coupons, sorted and organized said coupons and then put them into her enormous coupon binder. I went on shopping trips with her to get amazing deals and then I organized the deals into donation and sale piles and took photos. Come to think of it it’s been a busy last few days.

Yesterday afternoon I slipped down Cassie’s stairs and bruised my right back area. I was walking down from her second level to set up my laptop so I could listen to her radio interview and somehow I slipped while going around the corner on the stairs (if that makes sense) Ever since then I’ve been taking it slow. If I sit for long periods I seem to cramp up and then it hurts all over again. At the time I knocked the wind totally out of me and it took several minutes for me to gather my breath again.

In other news David finally paid me the money he owed me from when his gym membership renewed on my Master Card. He send me a text message the other day saying he left me the money in an envelope in the back door on my parents place. I immediately called home and left a message for someone to get the money before it blew away. So now things go back to the way they were and we don’t talk anymore. Whatever. I’m over it.

Once I’m back home I need to put everything into my budget. I’ve totally been slacking on that and it’s pretty much the end of January. Wow, time is flying by.
